5th ASTITVA SAMMAN 2020 and 4th JUNIOR ASTITVA SAMMAN 2020 22nd February, 2020 at 6:15 pm at PHD House, New Delhi

After the success of the previous programme, PHD Family Welfare Foundation’s Women & Child Committee organized its 5th Women Astitva Samman and 4th Junior Samman, 2020 at PHD House, New Delhi on Saturday 22nd February.

The Astitva Awards were initiated by the Women & Child committee of PHD Family Welfare Foundation to recognize organizations, NGOs and corporate where women have the potential to demonstrate their entire phenomenal and leadership skills.

The Junior Astitva awards were added a year later in 2017 to encourage and motivate students who have made an innovation which helps society. The selection is made across schools from NCR and PAN India.

Dr D K Aggarwal, President, PHD Chamber, Shri Sanjay Aggarwal, Sr. Vice President, PHD Chamber, Shri Pradeep Multani, Vice President, PHD Chamber, Ms Anuradha Goel, Chairperson, Woman and Child Committee, PHD Family Welfare Foundation, Shri K S Mehta, Former President, PHD Chamber, lighted the lamp to mark the beginning of the Samman Awards and Cultural evening.

The 5th Women Astitva Samman were conferred to Princess Diya Kumari Foundation (NGO) for its social outreach initiative founded by Princess Diya Kumari of Jaipur, in 2013 that aims at inclusive development of the underprivileged women in the rural areas of Rajasthan. Kirloskar Ebara Pump Ltd (Corporate) is one of the first pump companies to have an all women operated and managed manufacturing plant at Coimbatore. The factory was set up in 2010 and it has over 200 women employees with two shifts, the women roll out around eight to nine lakh pumps per year, Sakha Cabs (MSME) Sakha is a social enterprise that provides safe and reliable professional chauffeur and cab services for women by women. Sakha enables the women to access “remunerative livelihoods with dignity”. Savera Club (NGO) Savera a voluntary, non-profit NGO, started in 1997, by a team of 16 dedicated ladies with a dream of improving the plight of slum dwellers. Through its various intervention, the organisation reaches out to 400 beneficiaries a day and has extended a helping hand to various NGOs

The 4th Junior Astitva Samman were given to Shabd Sahni of Apeejay School Noida, he has developed a low cost integrated portable solution to ensure the user, in seconds ,on the quality of the water provided for drinking, Aryaman Lal of Modern School, Vasant Vihar, he has designed a programme called ‘Transforming literates to being educated Indians’He began the programme by teaching children from JJ Cluster Colony in Mahipalpur, New Delhi. Education rather than mere literacy would empower people and give them the ability of a wider sense of application and sense of responsibility for the greater good of society and to a team of 6 students of Shiv Nadar School, Greater Noida, who were passionate about animals, the team decided to provide prosthetic paws to a ten month puppy that had lost its front paws in a railway accident. They developed a design for the prosthetic paws. Two other dogs had lost their forelimbs they designed the limb with a ‘C’ shaped piece at the end with a spring mechanism attached to it, to provide suspension and a hop.

A recognition memento was given to special guest from Japan, Ms. Nupur Tewari for her ‘Heal Tokyo’ project.

Dr DK Aggarwal addressed the august gathering and stated that health and education are the key pillars to empower women in India.

Ahsan Bharti Ghungroo Wale & his troupe enthralled the audience with their mesmerising cultural performance.

The event witnessed a participation on more than 200 audience.
