4000 more railways station to be equipped with Wi-Fi facilities-CMD RAILTEL at PHDCCI

Chair & Managing Director RAILTEL Mr. Puneet Chawla on Friday disclosed that his organization would will be able to equip 4000 more Railway Station with Wi-Fi facility in near future to provide broadband & internet access across the country.

Addressing an interactive session members of PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry and TEMA here today, Mr. Chawla pointed out that RAILTEL has already provided Wi-Fi facilities in and around 1606 Railway Stations as of now.

By the end of last year, the Wi-Fi facilities existed for 700 Railway Stations and the organization has made a significant progress in increasing Wi-Fi facilities since then and in near future the pace would further accelerate and advance, he pointed out for equipping another 4000 railway stations with Wi-Fi facilities in next few months, the Chair & Managing director RAILTEL indicated that the work and planning are progressing to achieve the indented objective and hoped that it would be accomplished sooner than anticipated.

He also disclosed that the RAILTEL would put up around 200 KIOSK’S in the rural landscape of the country to offer services relating to e-governance and others such related services so that the masses avail of e-governance facilities provided by the government.

Mr. Chawla also stressed that high speed broadband facilities would also be procured by the organization to ensure that entertainment facilities including passenger’s safety are equipped in the vast railway network of the country. The organization would also place CCTV’s in 7020 coaches of premium trains so that the growing concern of the issues relating to security is also addressed, besides the work of laying of optical fiber would be completed by 2020 for 57000 k.m.’s. be completed.

Vice President of PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry Mr. Sanjay Aggarwal in his remarks lauded the contribution made by RAILTEL to social & economic empowerment of the people across the nation by installing free Wi-Fi at railway stations for general public.

Chair PHDCCI Telecom Committee Mr. Sandeep Aggarwal, suggested to work towards the dug once policy and also use the already laid optical fibers along the railway tracks for the security of railway tracks by using passive sonar technology which will save a lot of capex of Track Protection System (TPS).

Chair E TEMA & President CMAI Prof. N.K. Goyal, Director POM, RAILTEL Mr. Ashutosh Vasant, Chair National Railways Advisory Council TEMA Mr. S.N. Gupta & Principal Director PHDCCI MR. Yogesh Srivastav were also present on the occasion.
