11% growth of exports in March 2019 inspiring: PHD Chamber

While appreciating India’s double digit growth of merchandise exports at 11% in March 2019, Dr Mahesh Y Reddy, Secretary General, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry said in a press statement issued here today that trade facilitation measures and reforms in the ease of doing business have supported significantly to increase our export competitiveness in the international markets.

The growth of exports has been estimated at 9% for the year 2018-19 over a high growth rate of 10% achieved in 2017-18. Going ahead, the growth of our exports is seen intact in the current financial year 2019-20, said Dr Mahesh Y Reddy.

The growth of exports in March 2019 is highest in the last five months since November 2018, said Dr Reddy.

The further improvement in logistics infrastructure and trade facilitation measures would enhance the exports growth trajectory and create millions of new jobs opportunities, said Dr Reddy.

To harness the export potential of the country, the overall ease of doing exports is needed to be further enhanced in terms of easier access to raw materials, building linkages for strong marketing of products, improving labour productivity, labour flexibility and capital efficiency, said Dr Reddy.
