Transformation in any sector or sphere only gives opportunity to scale up businesses, Shri Thampi Koshy, Chief Executive Officer, Open Network For Digital Commerce ( ONDC)

ONDC is not a platform but a simple protocol trying to create an orderly market place for the buyers and the sellers, said Mr Koshy while addressing the Managing Committee Members of PHD Chamber Commerce and Industry.

ONDC gives equal opportunity to the sellers to showcase their product to the buyers across the country, overcoming the barriers of physical boundaries, giving easy access to the buyers and the sellers, added Mr Koshy.

Explaining it further, he mentioned that if a seller is showcasing his quality products he can do so to the buyers across the nation through ONDC, even though he would be physically present in the state of Kerela.

Mentioned that a new initiative has been started by the government for E-Commerce. Transformation is necessary but not an easy task to do as it face a lot of resistance to change, in the early stages. But transformation in any sector or sphere only gives opportunity to scale up businesses, added Mr Koshy

There is a global concern that with the coming up of e-commerce platforms , a lot of the small and medium enterprises have suffered due to being unable to live up to the excessive competition. So the government has come up with ONDC to give equal participation opportunity and easy access to display their products through digital catalogues, added Mr Koshy.

There are two major problems associated with e e-commerce trade one is market concentration and other is associated practices. ONDC is in the philosophy to take the trade at the next level by creating a support system and best market practices for all, said Mr Koshy

A major concern lies in the fact that 42% of the E- commerce companies are held by 4 Chinese companies because of proprietary technology platforms, so ONDC aims at ending the monopoly of the big players and giving equal chance to all sellers, be it small or medium, selling quality products, said Mr Koshy

Mr Saket Dalmia, President, PHDCCI, appreciated the government for the new initiative of Open Network for Digital Commerce which is sure to give each seller an equal opportunity to sell their quality products across the Nation.

Mr Dalmia thanked Mr Koshy for instilling his confidence in PHDCCI to impart knowledge to all retailers across the country, through the PHDCCI regional office , with the assistance of the ONDC office.
