Shri Anand Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, addresses the delegates and PHD members in an interactive Video Conference on Mitigating Covid’s Impact on India’s Clean Energy Mission organised by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry on 16th April, 2020. The session was attended by more than 250 delegates.
While thanking, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry for organizing an informative webinar in these times of crisis, Shri Anand Kumar, enlightened each participant that sanitization and social distancing is the only mantra to control the spread of the Covod-19 pandemic in the country.
This crucial time has brought a lot of learning to the Ministry as well as the countrymen. With the high usage of virtual platforms, we have increased our work efficiency to a great extent and now we can supply 160 Gigawatts in the country. The 2022 goal of achieving 175 Giga Watt will be achieved by us, said Shri Anand Kumar.
During COVID-19, we did not lessen our pace of working. We are working towards achieving our targets and achieving the goals set by the government. We want to make sure that our power supply and renewable power are protected and not compromised. We tried to clear all the financial dues of the generators and developers to enhance the capital available with them, said Shri Anand Kumar.
We are planning to create an alternative investment fund that will help to give load and financial support to DISCOMs and clear the due to be paid to developers and generators. Our effort is to release maximums due payments from DISCOMs to the power generators, said Shri Kumar.
Shri Kumar addressed all the issues faced by the industry and also requested PHD Chamber to submit a detailed representation to the government pertaining to issues and challenges faced by the Energy Sector along with effective suggestion and assured full support of the government in overcoming those challenges and working towards faster and sustainable growth in the Renewable Energy Sector.
Dr D K Aggarwal, President, PHD Chamber, while welcoming Shri Anand Kumar , Secretary – MNRE, sincerely thanked all the sponsors, Power Finance Corporation, Kundan Group, PTC India and PFS India, for their kind and valuable support extended to the Chamber. 10% of the sponsorship amount received for the webinar will be contributed to the PM CARES Fund, said Dr D K Aggarwal.
We highly appreciate the the pro-active and effective work undertaken and delivered by MNRE in these tough times ,put forth in front of each citizen of the country by the spread of the Covid-19 virus, by not cutting down even a single Mega Watt of electricity supplied to the Indian households, said Dr Aggarwal.
According to the goals set by the government, by 2022 we have to reach 175 Giga Watt and 40% of energy supply should come from renewable energy resources by 2030. This is a great initiative and will go a long way in boosting the growth of power sector and aiding rapid development of the nation, said Dr Aggarwal.
Government’s initiative for extensive promotion of usage of electric vehicles will be a step forward in the field of clean energy development, said Dr Aggarwal.
PHD Chamber is hopeful that the stimulus package which the government is preparing for the recovery of the country post Covid-19 will provide immense relief to the industry, trade and economy as a whole, which has suffered immensely due to the spread of pandemic Covid – 19, said Dr Aggarwal.
