Webinar on Opportunities for MSMEs to Participate in Government Procurement Programme (GeM)

MP Chapter of PHDCCI and PHD MSME Mentoring and Guidance Centre organised a ‘Webinar on Opportunities for MSMEs to Participate in Government Procurement Programme (GeM)’. The objectives were to spread knowledge about the Government e-marketplace, advantages, safety & security and ease of doing business at GeM and to make entrepreneurs understand how public procurement policy of the government works through GeM. The event was attended by officials from the Government departments, Government E-Marketplace (GeM), MSMEs, Entrepreneurs, Traders and other participants.

Mr. Pradeep Karambelkar, Chair MP Chapter PHDCCI, welcomed all the panellists and the participants. He underlined the objectives of the webinar and how it is going to help the entrepreneurs belonging to the MSME Sector.

Mr. Anil Khaitan, Former President & Mentor of PHD MSME Mentoring and Guidance Centre stated that GeM is the best platform for the MSMEs to market and sell their products. He also outlined the advantages of registering under the GeM Portal as MSMEs get direct access to all Government Departments and they can market and sell their products with minimal efforts. Mr. Khaitan informed that PHD Chamber stated that the Chamber has joined hands with Government e-Marketplace (GeM) and entered a new phase by signing a MoU so that awareness in regard to GeM is created at the grass root level in various clusters of MSMEs. He also said that the MSMEs can bid for market tenders free of cost through the e-Procurement portal. This would allow MSMEs to actively participate in various Government procurement programs. This would also enable the Public Sector Enterprises (PSUs) to achieve the mandatory 20% procurement from SMEs as stipulated in the Procurement Policy of 2012 and further contribute to the growth of MSMEs.

Dr H. P. Kumar, Ex-CMD, NSIC and Adviser, PHDCCI spoke about the role NSIC plays in promoting, aiding and fostering the growth of the MSMEs in the country. He stated that GeM is an extremely good platform which has benefitted the MSMEs as well as the Government. He informed that PHD Chamber has MSME Facilitation Centre under the which is a One-Stop Solution for the MSMEs to expand their business. The MSME Facilitation Centre will help MSMEs by facilitating them for raising fresh capital and credit, providing information about Government procurement operations and tenders and by guiding MSMEs for Interactive Session on Marketing Opportunities in Government Procurement Program for Indian MSMEs accessing financial assistance under various subsidy/assistance schemes of the government.

Mr. Y. K. Pathak, Dy. CEO and Nodal Officer GeM New Delhi gave a complete overview about Government E Market Place, its role in making India’s MSMEs vibrant and competitive. He stated that GeM Portal is the best platform for a MSME to market and sell his/her products.

Mr. Sanjay Kumar Deharia, Business Facilitator (MP) in his presentation on the GeM portal the registration procedure for buyers and sellers, uploading the product details, pricing of the product. Mr. Deharia highlighted that GeM 4.0 will be much smarter and powerful than the current GeM portal. He gave a brief outlook on the advantages of using GeM which included Efficiency, Transparency and Economy.

Dr. Yogesh Srivastav, Principal Director moderated the webinar and urged state chapter to offer various technical and management training programmes for the benefit of entrepreneurs in the state.

Mr. Pradeep Karambelkar, Chair MP Chapter extended formal vote of thanks to all participants.
