Chinese companies evince keen interest in PHDCCI’s maiden Renewable Energy & EV Delegation to Shanghai
Shanghai: India’s leading industry chamber, PHDCCI, mounted its first ever business delegation on renewable energy and electric vehicle (EV) sector to China, from 29 March to 4 April. The 8-member delegation included six start-ups in EV charging, EV trucks, battery storage and energy trading.
The objective of the delegation was to explore new technology solutions, meet new companies which were global leaders in their respective fields and discuss possibilities of partnerships for sourcing machinery and equipment.
Led by Ms Shalini S. Sharma, Assistant Secretary General, PHDCCI, the delegation called on India’s Consul General (CG) in Shanghai, Mr Pratik Mathur. The CG congratulated PHDCCI for being the first industry chamber to bring a business delegation to China since the resumption of ties and the opening of the Consulate’s new office in Shanghai.
The delegation briefed Mr Mathur about the objective of the visit and the regions that were being targeted for exploration of collaborations – Shanghai, Zhejiang and Wuxi. This, he said, was an opportune time for visiting these provinces since East China commands 41 per cent share of China’s total trade.
He provided the delegation a comprehensive overview of India–China trade relations, policy landscape, and emerging opportunities for tie-ups. Insights were also shared by industry and financial stakeholders on legal frameworks, investment facilitation, policy developments, and operational requirements in China.
Speaking about significance of the delegation, Dr Ranjeet Mehta, CEO & Secretary General, PHDCCI, said “China has emerged as a global leader in renewable energy deployment, battery technology, and electric vehicle manufacturing, while India is rapidly expanding its clean energy capacity and strengthening its electric mobility ecosystem. Both countries play a significant role in shaping the future of sustainable energy and transportation. PHDCCI believes that stronger partnerships between India and China in the fields of renewable energy and electric mobility can accelerate innovation, reduce technology costs, and contribute significantly to global climate goals”.
Sharing her experience after B2B meetings with at least 12 RE companies arranged by Shanghai New Energy Industry Association (SNEIA) at the sprawling campus of Global New Energy Empowerment Centre in Minhang district of Shanghai, Ms Sharma said that the interest and enthusiasm from companies on both sides was palpable. Talks between Indian delegates and Chinese companies stretched much beyond the stipulated time, with several Chinese executives having travelled hundreds of kilometers for the interactions.
While members of the Indian delegation outlined their requirements, companies from the other side showcased their strengths through individual presentations. Chinese companies present at the SNEIA meeting included Jinko ESS, Svolt Energy Technology, FR Electric (Zhejiang) Company, Haiti Solar, Jiangsu Oliter Energy Technology, Jiangsu EverShine Energy Technology, Shanghai Huitian New Material and others.
At a meeting with Deputy District Mayor of Wujin district, Ms Wang Ting and Mr Hu Yanhong, Director of Wujin District Bureau of Commerce, Ms Sharma offered PHDCCI’s support in increasing collaborations in renewable energy. She also gave an overview of PHDCCI’s work in different segments of the economy.
Companies present at this interaction with the Deputy District Mayor included Star Charge, Suwen Electric Energy Technology Company, Teld New Energy, Xinnian Group, Trina Solar and Shandong Jinchao Holdings.
Over a period of five days, the PHDCCI delegation visited several companies such as –
- Narada Power- Renewable energy storage batteries and accessories
- Yinenergy Digital Power Technology Co. Ltd – Digital solutions
- Chilwee Group – Rechargeable Li-ion battery and battery used for Electrical bicycle / Tricycle, EV, HEV, forklift, electrical tools / toys, etc.), renewable energy storage (solar, wind etc.),
- Shanghai Tianyu New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. – Solar Energy-Complete Solar System Solutions
- Eraergy Technology Co., Ltd. – Mobile energy solutions and distributed energy storage systems, particularly focused on electric mobility and temporary power supply applications
- Trina Solar Company – Flexi solar panels
- Shanghai Energy Electronic Technology Co. Ltd . – R&D, production and sales of lithium battery management system (BMS)
Interactions with major Chinese manufacturers and technology leaders provided rare glimpses into the different stages of lithium-ion battery production, scale of automation inside Chinese factories, new solutions in EV charging such as energy bots, light-weight solar panels which look like tinted glass and cover the facades of buildings, harnessing solar energy during the day and glowing with colourful lights at night, advanced energy storage systems, and solutions supporting electric mobility and renewable energy integration.
Key members of the Indian delegation shared their thoughts on the take-aways from the visit.
Mr Vinit Kumar, Founder, E-Zero Mobility, Gurugram, who joined the delegation along with his Co-Founder, Mr Arun Kataria, said, “It was a well coordinated and highly fruitful visit for us. We had very productive five days where we got to share our vision with more than 29 company representatives and connected with seven vendors. E-Zero is a start-up and this visit facilitated for us deep conversations with Chinese suppliers for critical engineering parts and systems. The impact of this delegation is that suppliers have taken it very seriously & our project timeline has got reduced by 16 weeks”.
Mr Varun Patel, Chief Technology Officer, Neo Urja Private Limited, Ahmedabad, said, “We engaged with senior level counterparts in EV charging, battery energy storage systems and advanced BMS technology across Wuxi, Suzhou and Shanghai. PHDCCI initiative was hugely beneficial in identifying concrete synergies for joint manufacturing and technology licensing in EV charging infrastructure. The technologies observed hold a transformative potential and we see true potential to become global clean energy technology leaders benefiting entrepreneurs from both nations.”
Mr Aditya Narain Misra, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, RePrime Energy, Lucknow, said, “This visit reflects a constructive shift in India–China economic engagement. We see strong potential in combining China’s manufacturing depth with India’s growing demand for energy infrastructure, particularly through integrated platforms that enable efficient distribution and deployment of energy assets at scale.”
