PHDCCI organizes Global Sustainability Conclave fostering collaborative solutions for environmental advocacy leading to a sustainable future

Creating the right ecosystem for scaling solar is very important, especially in terms of policy regulations with removing blockades for the deployment of private capital that will promote sustainable growth, said Mr. Ramesh Kumar Kuruppath, Chief of Unit (Programme & Projects Implementation Cluster), International Solar Alliance (ISA) while speaking at  held on 20th March 2024 at Hotel Le-Meridien, New Delhi.

He further added, creating a guarantee mechanism for investor confidence is also very important. The issue of global sustainability is very complex, and the entire narrative has changed since 2015 in terms of SDG goals, IDC commitment etc. A lot has happened since then, such as geopolitical tensions arising and pandemics occurring, therefore there is a need to relook at our approach.

Mr. Kuruppath stated that solar will play an important role and will be a key player driving the entire ecosystem. Also there’s a long way to go, and everything happens with partnership. He added, there are three important parameters, first is energy access, then energy security, especially in the context of geopolitical issues, and finally, energy transition to low carbon and more renewables.

Speaking further on ISA, Mr. Kuruppath mentioned that it was created by the Government of India and the Government of France on the sidelines of COP21. Initially, it was for countries near the equator, but eventually, many countries have become part of it. The issue of sustainability and narrative differs for different countries and currently, 119 countries are part of the alliance. Hence it’s essential to highlight the importance of global partnerships and collaboration in addressing sustainability challenges. Together, countries and the world can work towards creating a more sustainable future for all, concluded MrKuruppath.

Mr. Keshav Singhal, Head of Sustainability, Noida International Airport shared insights about the Noida International Airport (NIA), a greenfield airport located in Jewar. He informed how NIA aims to improve connectivity to and from Delhi NCR, Noida, and Western UP. Envisioned as a confluence of Swiss efficiency and Indian hospitality, NIA aims to become India’s leading airport in terms of customer service, efficiency, digital services, and commitment to minimal environmental impact. Furthermore, investments can be strengthen through profitable incentives, such as government grants and subsidies and building capacity at the ground level. Additionally, the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model is integral for fostering collaboration and investment in sustainability, added Mr. Batham.

Dr. Ranjeet Mehta, Executive Director, PHDCCI highlighted the evolving perception of sustainability. He remarked that back in 2004-05, sustainability was considered a loosely used term, but today, people don’t question why, but rather when sustainability will be achieved. However, the importance of balancing developmental needs with environmental goals is also very important.

Dr. Mehta further stressed the significance of environmental consciousness, noting India’s initiatives such as the ISA and the PM’s LIFE mission, which focus on transitioning to green energy.
