Sh. T. K. Manoj Kumar, Chairman of the Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority, during the Inaugral Session of PHDCCI Warehousing Logistics Show 2024, organised on 22nd- 23rd February 2024, at PHD House, New Delhi, emphasized the significant contribution of various multimodal initiatives to the sector’s growth while praising the government for its efforts in the logistics sector, especially the logistics policy. He appreciated how the policy has helped the sector grow and create more opportunities, making it easier for businesses to operate and expand. He believes these efforts will make logistics more efficient and competitive.

Regarding the warehousing sector, Mr. Kumar highlighted its integral role within the broader logistics industry and underscored the business opportunities available within it. He further informed that WDRA is planning to introduce non-agricultural warehouses. Additionally, he discussed the rise in registered warehouses and loading activities, mentioning that in 2021, there were approximately 1800 warehouses, a number that has now surged to around 5500.

Dr. Ranjeet Mehta, Executive Director of PHDCCI, discussed how the logistics and warehousing sector is of paramount importance for any economy worldwide, particularly in India, where logistics costs may currently be very high.

With the economy on the rise, people are increasingly recognizing the significance of this sector. As our economy expands, our logistics systems must become seamless. The pandemic underscored the critical role of the logistics sector, as disruptions in the supply chain left people stranded and communication channels were also affected. This realization highlighted the importance of a robust logistics infrastructure. When discussing the high cost of logistics, it’s essential to recognize that it also contributes to the GDP. Government initiatives like Gati Shakti Mission aim to streamline logistics operations, demonstrating a coordinated effort across various ministries, concluded, Dr. Mehta.

Sh. Pawan Jain, Chair of the Logistics Committee at PHDCCI, discussed how the focus is on Integrated Logistics, Automation, and Infrastructure—three pillars that are not just critical but transformative in the realm of logistics. In an age defined by innovation and efficiency, the integration of logistics operations, the implementation of automation, and the development of robust infrastructure have become indispensable facets of success in the logistics industry. The landscape of logistics is rapidly evolving, driven by technological advancements and changing consumer demands. Today, more than ever, businesses are tasked with the challenge of streamlining their supply chains, optimizing their processes, and enhancing their overall efficiency. It is imperative that we adapt and innovate to stay ahead in this dynamic environment.

The vote of thanks was provided by Sh. Ravinder Sethi, Co-Chair of the Logistics Committee at PHDCCI, where he highlighted how the logistics sector played a crucial role globally during the pandemic, especially in the movement of vaccines.
