PHDCCI-Delegation Meets Hon’ble Agriculture Minister, Discusses Key Sectoral Issues & Proposals

 

A delegation from the PHDCCI-Kashmir Chapter led by Chairman Mr. Vicky Shaw and Co-Chair Mr. Javaid Anim, met with Mr. Javaid Ahmad Dar, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development, and Panchayati Raj to discuss critical issues and proposals for the development of agriculture, horticulture, and allied sectors in Jammu & Kashmir. The Meeting was attended by EC Members of PHDCCI Mr Bilal Kawoosa, Mr Fayaz Ahamd, and Mr Nasir Rather.

During the meeting, the PHDCCI delegation raised several pressing concerns and submitted proposals for the minister’s consideration, including:
• Cold storage approvals and inclusion of cold room infrastructure under HADP (Holistic Agriculture Development Program).
• Unchecked import of planting material and its impact on local growers.
• Price escalation in High-Density Apple Plantation Scheme and need for cost rationalization.
• Restrictions on apple imports to safeguard local farmers.
• Export incentives for apple growers to enhance competitiveness.
• Mid-term review of HADP and J&K CIP (Industrial Policy) for necessary interventions.
• Revolving fund for wool procurement to support local artisans.
• Funding for cattle breeding farms and silk-wool cluster parks to boost allied sectors.
• Adoption of PPP mode in government nurseries for better efficiency and outreach.

The delegation also apprised the minister about the Poultry Entrepreneurship Training Program, being conducted by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) with support from SIDBI across various districts, highlighting its success in generating rural employment.

A key proposal for organizing a flagship Agriculture & Horticulture Exhibition in Kashmir and Jammu, in collaboration with the Agriculture Department and PHDCCI, was presented. The event aims to showcase innovations, promote investment, and facilitate market linkages for local farmers and entrepreneurs.

Hon’ble Minister Mr. Javaid Ahmad Mir gave a patient hearing to all the issues raised and acknowledged their genuineness, assuring the delegation that the concerns would be addressed on priority. He particularly appreciated the proposal for the national-level Agriculture & Horticulture Expo, recognizing its potential to boost the sector’s growth and visibility.
The PHDCCI-Kashmir chapter expressed gratitude for the minister’s proactive approach and looks forward to continued collaboration with the government for sustainable development in J&K’s agri-Horti sector.
