Renowned Chef Manjit Singh Gill Advocates for Gastronomy Policy at PHDCCI Bharat Startup Summit

New Delhi, India – November 7, 2023 – Chef Manjit Singh Gill, the Managing Director of Eco Green Hospitality Legacy, took the center stage at the National Startup Summit held at PHD House in New Delhi, where he proposed a groundbreaking gastronomy policy at a global forum. The summit’s theme, “Building Bharat as a Tourism Hotspot of The World,” brought together prominent figures in the industry to discuss and shape the future of India’s tourism sector.

The welcome address at the summit was delivered by Dr. Ranjeet Mehta, Executive Director, PHDCCI who emphasized the pivotal role played by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) in promoting Indian industry, trade, and entrepreneurship for over 118 years. With a substantial base of 150,000 direct and indirect members, spanning large, medium, and small industries, PHDCCI has been instrumental in driving the Indian economy forward. Dr. Mehta also highlighted the impressive growth of the Indian startup ecosystem, noting the existence of more than 100,000 startups and 118 unicorns.

During the theme address, Mr. Vinayak Nath, Co-Chair of the Alliance Task Force, Startup20, G20, and Co-Founder & CEO of India Assist, emphasized the world’s growing interest in Indian startups and the need for collaboration to promote “Bharat from Bharat.” He commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to boost the entire tourism sector, with a particular focus on promoting hospitality within the industry. Mr. Nath stressed the importance of innovation as a currency that can unlock the tourism and hospitality sector’s vast potential. He highlighted the power of creating experiences that attract tourists and transform them into ambassadors of Indian culture and heritage, while simultaneously preserving the country’s natural beauty and enhancing it.

Mr. Anil Parashar, Chair of the Tourism & Hospitality Committee and Chief Executive Officer at InterGlobe Technology Quotient, reiterated the growing prominence of the tourism sector and the need for infrastructure and travel enhancements to facilitate connections with the global market. He noted that hospitality and tourism contribute a significant 10% to the global GDP.

In a special address, Chef Manjit Singh Gill, known for his culinary expertise, shed light on culinary tourism and the rich heritage and connotations associated with food. He emphasized the underappreciated role that food plays in the tourism sector, describing it as universal within the political boundaries of a country. Chef Gill urged the need for a policy to promote food within the tourism and hospitality sector and cited examples of countries promoting their food legacy and traditions. He concluded by proposing the implementation of a gastronomy policy at the global level.

Mr. Puskar Srivastava, CEO of Moto GP Bharat, discussed the GVPS system and the identification of tourist spots that can significantly impact the growth of the Indian economy. He praised PHDCCI for organizing such a vibrant and relevant platform for bringing together key stakeholders in this significant conference.
