Ministry of Education signs MOU with PHDCCI on Vidyanjali

NEW DELHI: PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ministry of Education’s Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) on Vidyanjali on Thursday, 13 July, at the chamber headquarters.

Vidyanjali is a Government initiative to strengthen schools through community and private sector involvement across the country. This initiative connects volunteers from all spheres of life as well as industry.

Among the objectives of the MOU are improving the quality of government schools – in terms of infrastructure as well as pedagogy; helping the Government in its vision of Samagra Shiksha; creating a single window for industry to volunteer for the project and encouraging more corporates to support institution building through Vidyanjali.

In partnership with the Government now, PHDCCI will work on scaling up industry’s efforts in CSR for schools through the Vidyanjali portal; jointly organizing sensitisation sessions for industry to support government schools; showcasing role models of corporate support to government schools; creating a platform for recognition of exemplary corporate support to government schools through Vidyanjali and jointly organising capacity building programmes for promoting entrepreneurship and increasing employability.

Speaking on the MOU, Ms A Srija, Economic Advisor, Department of School Education and Literacy said, “The Ministry appreciates the fact that this is the first time an industry body has come forward to consolidate the work being done by corporates to support Government schools in Vidyanjali. We hope that this MOU will lead to shining of requisite light on role models of exemplary partnerships between industry and academia. DoSEL looks forward to working with PHDCCI on Vidyanjali.”

Mr Saurabh Sanyal, CEO & Secretary General of PHDCCI who signed the MOU on behalf of the chamber, said, “PHDCCI’s legacy of 118 years and its strong network of industry which has been doing yeoman service for the cause of education for long, will help in advocating the cause of Vidyanjali. We look forward to working with the Ministry of Education for value-addition in the quality of Government schools.”

Mr Shreevats Jaipuria, Chairman of PHDCCI’s Education Committee said, “Industry’s contribution to education is already very high in higher education. In school education, it is private sector which is driving innovation through technology and future skill-based initiatives. This MOU with the Ministry of Education will help PHDCCI in consolidating the efforts of industry in education and presenting role models of excellence.”

Ms Sonali Jain, Co-Chairperson of PHDCCI’s Education Committee said, “This MOU may fill the much-needed gap which exists in terms of corporates doing exemplary work in education and yet lack acknowledgement and appreciation of their efforts. Hopefully, we will be able to not only connect more corporates with government schools through Vidyanjali but also bring to light the 360° work being done already by the corporates for promotion of education and literacy in the country.”
