 Rajasthan is Showing the way for Mission Millets across the country

On the occasion of ‘The National Farmers’ Day'( 23rd December 2022), the Agribusiness and Food Processing committee along with the Rajasthan State Chapter of  PHDCCI* organized an Industry Meet themed, * MILLETS: Power House of Nutrition *  at National Institute Of Agriculture Marketing ( NIAM), Jaipur, Rajasthan. 

 

The Hon’ble minister for Rajasthan State Agriculture Marketing Board, *Shri. Murari Lal Meena*, Government of Rajasthan inaugurated the event.  Shri Ramavatar Meena, IAS, Director, Integrated Child Development Studies (ICDS),  Shri Digvijay Dhabriya, Chair, Rajasthan State Chapter, Dr. Ramesh Mittal, Director, NIAM, Dr. A. S. Baloda, Director, RARI, Dr. Satyen Yadav, President, HPMI, Dr. Shailendra Singh Chauhan, AGM, NABARD were amongst the dignitaries for the occasion. A knowledge report prepared by the Agri and Food committee was also released by the Chief Guest, Shri Murari Lal Meena. 

 

While addressing the meeting, the Hon’ble Minister  informed the gathering  that :

 *Rajasthan is the first ever state to have released a separate Agriculture budget 

 *He also spoke about how the Rajasthan State Agriculture Marketing Board aspires to set up hundred Millet Processing units in the state, and 

 *A subsidy upto rupees fifty lakh rupees will be provided to each of such units 

He further concluded his address by saying that Govt of Rajasthan has already announced mission millets in the state, and in the coming times, the work will be progressing at high-speed.  He said that he appreciates PHDCCI’s initiative and will support the chamber for the Mission Millets initiatives across the state. All the stakeholders along with other organizations were also appealed to contribute towards the mission. 

 

Shri Ramavatar Meena, IAS, Director, Integrated Child Development Studies (ICDS) Mentioned that the incorporation of millet and millet-based diet in the mid-day meal services of the state government programs in Aanganbadis will improve the nutritional status of the state population. He further informed that ICDS is planning on arranging many such millet meets and awareness programs across the state for better reach of  producers and consumers.

 

 

Shri Digvijay Dhabriya, Chair, Rajasthan State Chapter, PHDCCI welcomed and assured the Hon’ble minister that PHDCCI will work with full dedication towards the development of the aforementioned hundred processing units of millets. He also said that PHDCCI will keep organizing such meets, exhibitions, and conclaves to inspire and aware producers, processors, and consumers that aim towards adding millet to the diet basket of the consumers. He also mentioned that such programs will attract investment and employment in the sector furthering the mission millet.

 

Dr. Ramesh Mittal, the Director, of NIAM, Dr. A. S. Baloda, the Director, of RARI, and Dr. Satyen Yadav, President, of HPMI, spoke in great detail about superior varieties of millets and how the Increase in production, consumption and improved value chain linkage is the need of the hour. They also mentioned how working on the basic level will yield the most results and help take Mission millets across the state more effectively. The experts also spoke about the health benefits of millets and how the millet-based diet has helped people survive the COVID pandemic.

 

Dr. Shailendra Singh Chauhan, AGM, NABARD spoke about various schemes provided by NABARD and also mentioned that Government is there to support all the ventures of the organizations at the grassroots level. 

 

Ms. Mili Dubey, Director, Agribusiness and Food Processing committee PHDCCI gave a Vote of Thanks. Mr. Rakesh Kumar Gupta, Resident Director, Rajasthan State Chapter, PHDCCI moderated the Industry Meet.
