Virtual & Augmented reality can aid MSMEs in improving their productivity, innovations & skilling: PHD Chamber

PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized a seminar on “Application of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality in MSMEs”, today at PHD House, New Delhi. The objective of the seminar was to deliberate on the use of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality (AR/VR) in MSMEs working in healthcare and manufacturing sectors.

While addressing the gathering, Mr. Sumit Duggal, Co-Chair, Innovation & Startup Committee, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that VR/AR technologies will create synergies for the promotion of skill development activities and enhance innovative environment, especially in the MSME sector. They will further augment new business opportunities for the MSMEs, he added.

Dr. B.K. Murthy, Scientist (Scientist G and GC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India said that implementing a small digital platform for public and MSMEs can create a huge change in people’s lives and generate economic value in the industry. The digital economy can support around 65 million jobs in India by 2025, he added. Further, Dr. B.K. Murthy suggested that there should be creation of an ecosystem which can promote industry-academia linkages.

Mr. Yadu Kr. Yadav, CoE: IT for I 4.0, National Productivity Council, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India said that the fourth industrial revolution encompasses the use of smart machines, internet of things, cloud computing and smarter cities connected to the internet. He urged policymakers to establish fundamental building block of good governance and facilitate creation of industry 4.0 labs at various locations in the country. This will lead to skill upgradation, better institutional framework, strengthen human capital, technology and innovation, he added.

Speaking at the seminar, Dr. Suman Mazumdar, Scientist D, DSIR, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India mentioned that the groundbreaking technologies like Virtual Reality have influenced and impacted the lives of humans in every field of work like tourism, healthcare, manufacturing, among others. “We should encourage MSMEs to use AR/VR in their organizations as it allows every characteristic of a part, process or mechanism to be simulated and tested,” he added.

The seminar was also attended by Dr. Jatinder Singh, Director, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Dr. Sushil Chandra, Scientist G, INMAS, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO); Dr. Shakti Amar Goel, Orthopedic Spine Surgeon, Indian Spinal Injuries Centre; Col.
