Promising to facilitate smooth business activities and to create conditions conducive to expansion of business ties between the two countries, Mr Adrian Garcia, Commissioner, Harris County, USA said that there are aplenty of opportunities present in Houston, a prominent port city in his county.

On his first visit to India, Garcia led a delegation of business leaders from Harris County and participated in an interactive session with Indian businessmen and industrialists. The session was organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry at PHD House, New Delhi on Friday.

Houston, a major port located in the centre of the American continent, can form the transhipment point for goods from India, Mr Garcia said. US is taking steps to widen and deepen the port to handle bigger vessels, he added and promised to address the concerns raised by few Indian businessmen at the meeting.

On the issue of costs of transportation, the Harris County Commissioner mentioned that it is a business decision that needs to be negotiated with the owners of shipping lines. NASA, located in the Harris County, offers tremendous potential, reflected by the number of innovations that are coming out from there, Mr Garcia said.
