No.PR-55 July 20, 2018 New Delhi PHDCCI & JNU SIGN MOU TO PROMOTE INNOVATION, ENTREPRENEURSHIP & STARTUP CULTURE AMONG STUDENTS & FACULTIES PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here on Friday for promoting innovation, entrepreneurship and Startups culture among students and faculty. The MoU was signed between President, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Anil Khaitan and Vice Chancellor, JNU, Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar. Among others who were present included Dr. Hemant R. Kushwaha, Coordinator, Innovation and Incubation, JNU; Prof. Rupesh Chaturvedi, Director, Research and Development, JNU; Mr. Sumit Duggal, Co-Chair, Startup committee, PHD Chamber; Prof. Kaushal Kumar Sharma, Chief proctor, JNU and Dr. Jatinder Singh, Director, PHD Chamber. The core objectives of MoU include to strengthen ties between industry and academia, bring about closer linkage and promote research and consultancy, which is of relevance to industry, thereby cultivating a sense of joint ownership among relevant faculties and facilitate continued education to professionals from industry so that these can upgrade their technical knowledge and obtain higher degrees while in turn helping to align the faculty members towards industry’s requirements. In a statement issued here today, the two institutions have emphasised that these would together focus on paving for academics to take sabbatical and spend time in industries, arranging internships for students so that the stakeholders are better prepared for the corporate life as well organize regular capacity building programmes for start-ups and entrepreneurships including induction of technological knowhow of the industry in academia. Both have agreed to cooperate on major thrust areas which would be considered for any joint research and related activities such as health, information technology, environment and energy, agriculture and food, rural development and any other program with mutual consent.
