Use of Solar Power, Natural Gas and Green Financing can facilitate decarbonisation of Manufacturing sector : PHDCCI 

The Power, Renewable & Alternate Energy Committee of PHDCCI organised a Webinar on Creating Cleaner Factories : RE & Natural Gas in Manufacturing Sector on 31 January 2022 at 2.30 pm . The webinar was addressed by eminent experts from RE & Natural gas sector. 

Ms Surbhi Goyal, Senior Energy Specialist, World Bank Group, spoke about the significance of adopting RE in the manufacturing sector, considering India’s international commitments, and gave a brief about the international scenario in decarbonising the manufacturing sector. She spoke about carbon taxation and growth of Green financing in Europe. She informed that credit enhancement and green financing options for MSMEs were essential for sustainable Green energy adoption by them. She also spoke about 2 new emerging technologies viz Floating Solar and Green Hydrogen. 

Mr Ravi Kuchi, Vice-President, Business Development, Indian Energy Exchange, and Mr Sushil Mishra, AVP, Indian Gas Exchange, gave presentations on how their exchanges were helping Indian manufacturing in adopting RE & Natural Gas. The benefits of these Exchanges for the industry are – Transparency in pricing and Competitive pricing, flexibility of contracts, equal opportunity to all buyers. 

Mr Ashu Gupta, Head – Regulatory & Government Relations, CleanMax Enviro Energy Solutions Pvt Ltd & Mr Shashank Sharma, Founder – CEO, Sunsure Energy, spoke about benefits of solar power generation – both rooftop and open access – and various business models which the industry can adopt. 

Mr D V Shastry, Executive Director, Natural Gas Society – a veteran of the Natural Gas industry- gave a detailed presentation on benefits of using Natural Gas in Manufacturing sector and Government of India’s plans for a Gas based economy. 

Mr Rahul Jain, Senior Manager, GAIL, gave a detailed presentation about the Gas infrastructure of India, its international market and dynamics of Gas procurement from abroad. 

Mr Salil Gupta, Chairman, Power, RE & AE Committee in his theme remarks spoke about huge benefits-both in terms of decarbonisation and cost – by using RE in manufacturing sector. The Technical session was moderated by Mr Saurabh Gupta, Co-Chair, Power, RE & AE Committee. Mr Saurabh Sanyal in his Vote of Thanks spoke about PHDCCI’s initiatives in the Green Hydrogen sector and role PHDCCI was playing in policy advocacy in RE and Environment protection. 

Dr Yogesh Srivastav delivered the Opening remarks and moderated the Inaugural Session. Indian Energy Exchange and Indian Gas Exchange were Exchange Partners of the Webinar.
