A delegation of PHD Chamber Members from Agribusiness sector led by Shri Nand Kishore Aggarwal, Chair, Shri Kapil Chaudhary, Co Chair, called on the office of Dr. M Angamuthu, Chairman APEDA and submitted a Technical Guidance Booklet for production of Basmati Rice. The Booklet consists of revised Procedure of Practices for spray of agro chemicals to be followed by growers for effective pest management and to ensure there are no residues of agro chemicals in the final produce. The POP has been designed and based on parameters like adoption of products with defined pre harvest interval that are approved by CIB, CODEX and the major importing countries like the EU & the US. The booklet suggests a bouquet of such products based on identified disease of paddy from seed sowing stage till harvest stage.

In April this year, taking a cue from the effect of Pesticide residues on Rice export, PHDCCI took the lead and invited the rice exporters for an interaction to understand their operational issues. Thereafter, a committee consisting of technical experts from agro chemical industry was set up. Based on concerns raised by exporters, the experts drafted the Procedure of Practices for grwoers (POP).

In the meeting today Dr. Angamuthu received the booklet and the presentation made by PHDCCI on the process adopted for formulating the PoP. He appreciated the PHDCCI initiative and agreed to share with all stakeholders to get field trials done and provide feedback for verification and adoption. He commended on the way the booklet has spelt out the issue and provided solution. He agreed that APEDA would take a lead in getting it vetted and implemented in the States.
