No.PR-107 May 30, 2020 New Delhi Our prime objective is to make India self reliant in production and consumption of Steel : Ms. Rasika Chaube, IDAS, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Steel New Delhi, 30th May 2020: To carve out a way to address the demand, supply and way forward, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted an interactive webinar on “Atmannirbharta in Steel and Mining Sector: What the Structural Reforms Mean for India” with Ms. Rasika Chaube, IDAS, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Steel. Ms. Rasika Chaube, IDAS, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Steel while deliberating about Steel and Mining sector, said that COVID-19 has given a lot of challenges and well as opportunities. This is time to become self-reliant as much as possible and the Ministry of Steel has been working on self-reliance even before COVID-19 as well. For the Ministry of Steel, self-reliance can be broken into two parts- production and consumption. In production, we are trying to make quality steel at competitive prices so that it can be transported and used for a profitable basis and add value. In terms of consumption, we aim at we must try to consume as much steel as possible or make a substitute and use domestic steel. Our prime objective is to produce and consume domestically. The challenge for reaching on self- reliance is to try to manufacture within the country and figure out export opportunities outside the country. She further gave detailed insights about the initiatives and steps taken towards the domestic Manufacturing, Producing, and Atmannirbharta like National Steel Policy, Domestic Manufacturing Iron and Steel Policy, Import Steel Monitoring System, Steel Actions and many more. We have made a lot of action plans so that we can achieve our targets and goals. We are taking diligent steps in making India self-reliant in the steel industry and we are optimistic to achieve them. The economic package announced by the Finance Ministry has helped in improving the liquidity, domestic manufacturing, improving infrastructure, and others will go a long way to boosting the industry. Dr. D K Aggarwal, President, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in his presidential remarks mentioned about the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of Self-Reliant India which gives a message to India that to come out this adversity, we need to be self-reliant, independent and become a net exporter to the world. the package is full of reforms that will help our country to come out stronger and PHD Chamber stands in full solidarity to support the government. The reforms and developments announced for the minerals and mining sector like mining auctions, mining serving, surplus production, and others will help to boost the mining sector and way go a long way to make this industry a stronger sector in the future. it will create employment and create new forms of investment which will help the economy and be self-reliant.
