NEW LOGISTICS AND AIR CARGO POLICY TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON : DR PRABHU AT PHDCCI

Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Dr Suresh Prabhu on Tuesday declared that the new Integrated Logistics and Air Cargo Policy would be announced ‘very soon’ in which every minute detail pertaining to logistics and cargo would be addressed to the best of the satisfaction of all stakeholders.

Without specifying a timeframe for the declaration of the proposed policy, the Minister emphasized that with Integrated Logistics and Air Cargo Policy be in place, the solutions to critical issues relating to agriculture and manufacturing output and their supplies including exports would be sufficiently explored though the possibilities of making improvement in such an Integrated Policy still exist even in future.

Inaugurating the 4th PHD Air Cargo Summit-2018 under aegis of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry here today, Dr Prabhu explained that a specific department of logistics has been created in the Department of Commerce which is finalizing the nitty-gritty of logistics dimensions as also cargo movement with necessary consultation process.

The government is of the view that the basic objective on which the logistics and cargo policy is being be put in place is based on the premise that its context is important and significant rather than text because both logistics and cargo are one of the biggest growth driven sector in India after services and therefore, all efforts of the policy makers are going in the direction so that following announcement of the policy, the growth of agriculture, manufacturing multiply exponentially with air cargo movement picking up the anticipated movement with affordable tariff structure, indicated the Minister.

In the meanwhile, Dr Prabhu asked the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry to submit its suggestions and feedback expeditiously to the government so that on proposed Logistics and Air Cargo Policy so that these could be inserted in the Policy urging the industry association to come out with idea that are workable and can be implemented within the established structure of the Government of India.

In his welcome remarks, President, PHDCCI, Mr Rajeev Talwar appreciated the growth that has happened in the multiplier terms in the entire Indian economy in the last few decades given the compulsions of the government and largely acknowledged the policy measures of the government of the day claiming that these would further propel the economy and India would fast inch up its pace of growth in all sectors particularly that of civil aviation and the like.

Among others who were also present on the occasion comprised MOS, Civil Aviation, Mr Jayant Sinha; Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Mr Rajiv Nayan Choubey; Chairperson-Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India, Mr S Machendranathan; Economic Advisor, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Ms Vandana Aggarwal; Sr. Vice President, PHDCCI, Mr D K Aggarwal; Chair and Co-Chair, Civil Aviation Committee, PHDCCI, Mr K Narayana Rao and Mr Vipin Vohra along with its Principal Director, Mr Yogesh Srivastav.
