PHD Chambers suggests transmission wise analysis to minimize transmission and distribution losses in nct, delhi
PHD Chamber has called upon the Delhi Government to closely monitor the action plan in coordination with the power distribution companies BSES and NDPL to bring down the losses to less than 10 % at the earliest.
A study of vulnerable pockets of power theft transformer by transformer has been suggested by the PHD Chamber. This updated information is available with the DISCOMS. According to Mr. Krishan Kalra, Secretary General PHD Chamber, “The DISCOMS need to start acting on one transformer a week (after doing the necessary preparations) .After systematically touching this problem transformer by transformer on a regular basis and taking the necessary action results will start showing and thefts and losses shall be curbed magically”.
In Delhi after privatization of power distribution Aggregate Technical and Commercial losses (AT&C) between 2002-2007 have been reduced from 62 % to 25 % in BSES served areas and from 50 % to 18 % in NDPL areas. Before privatization, the Government of NCT, Delhi was financing the DVB to the extent of Rs 1200 crores. Now this money is available for other development activities. This highlights the success of power sector distribution reforms in the National Capital.
It is estimated that a 1% reduction in T & D losses would generate savings of RS 700-800 crores annually. In some cities in India where private DISCOMS are providing power the losses have been reduced to less than 10 %.
Furthermore PHD Chamber has suggested that the Power distribution companies should be urged to provide the current transmission level data on a regular basis and results should be posted on their website too. This will involve the general public and create awareness. The advantage will be availability of quality and regular power at reasonable tariff to all category of consumer in the capital.
