PHD CHAMBER CONDOLES SAD DEMISE OF DR BHARAT RAM

Mr Sanjay Bhatia, President, PHD Chamber condoled the sad demise of Dr Bharat Ram, one of its illustrious Past Presidents and Chairman Emeritus of SRF. He was the President of the Chamber during 1954 to 1956.

Dr Bharat Ram's contribution to Indian Industry in general and the chamber movement in particular are significant.  He joined the family business-DCM-founded by his father Sir Sri Ram, at the young age age of 21 after his graduation and rose to become its chairman and managing director in 1958. Under his stewardship, DCM grew rapidly and was seen as one of the most forward looking companies during that period. Ranked among the top 10 conglomerates in India in 1980, DCM diversified beyond its traditional areas like textiles and sugar into emerging sectors like chemicals, fertilizers, tyre chord and electronics.

Dr Bharat Ram has left deep imprints in the chambers of commerce movement in the country. "We fondly recall that his first presidency started with our chamber, which he served in an outstanding manner, later to become the President of  FICCI and the first Indian President of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the world's apex Chamber based in Paris bringing laurels to Indian business way back in 1970s.

Dr Bharat Ram was very active in the social, cultural, educational and sporting life of Delhi. He was very closely involved with prestigious organizations like Ganga Ram Hospital, Shriram College of Commerce, Lady Shriram College, Delhi Golf Club and Sri Ram Centre.

"PHD Chamber was greatly enriched from the vision and patronage of the Sri Ram family. We place on record our deep sense of gratitude and reverence to the family that has etched deep imprints in the over 100 year history of the Chamber" said Mr Bhatia.
