Uttarakhand will have to focus to close the existing gap of skilling its youths with synergizing the efforts of Government, Industry and Academia for upskilling the human resource which is the USP of our nation which has Demographically advantageous status, Governor of Uttarakhand, Dr. K K Paul said.
 

Delivering his keynote address at a Conference on Skilling Uttarakhand for Global Competitiveness under aegis of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pant Nagar, Dr. Paul asserted on the importance of skilling the youth is paramount for nation development. He cited the example of expertise of Japanese who become auto sector leaders although it was not the nation of origin of Auto industry.
 

Mr. S.S. Negi, Minister for Health stated that good initiatives taken by PHD Chamber should be extrapolated to the block levels. He also reiterated the need for special focus on skilling of school children to equip them for taking up employment even if they have to stop continuing the academics for the higher education.
 

Mr. H C Durgapal, Minister for Labor & Employment & MSME, Uttarakhand expressed his concern on the migration of the hill population linking the same with the lack of opportunities for the skilled in the hills and also lack of opportunities for enhancing skills. He stated that inherited skills in the hills need to be polished and marketed. The stakeholders should work towards the same, he stated.
 

Dr. Shailendra Mohan Singhal, Chairman, Mandi, Uttarakhand said that there is need of activating the dedicated team for the skilling mission. He cited exemplary zeal shown by former director of Uttarakhand Skill development Society Mr. Akshat Gupta the District Magistrate of U S Nagar who was sharing the Dais.
 

Dr. Mangala Rai, Vice Chancellor, G. B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology deliberated that immediate action of creating a platform for the benefit of the farmers for supplying commercially viable seeds is required. He stated that it is significant that commercially viable solutions for underprivileged and bringing the dignity of labour especially in the agri sector. He also shared with the audience the high levels of the standards of the university citing an example of latest introduction of rice seeds by the university in Nov 2015, which is of unmatched quality at the global market.
 

In his welcome remarks, Senior Member, PHD Chamber Mr. Rajeev Ghai said that Uttarakhand still has to add to its fold, skilling of its youth to meet demands and challenges of employment and entrepreneurship to meet Global Competitiveness.
 

In this theme address, Senior Member, PHD Chamber, Mr. Amit Gupta asserted that Uttarakhand has the strategic advantage of high literacy levels, rich natural resources, tourism due to its religious heritage and its unmatched geographical character. Skill training has to be customized according to the local industry needs and youth aspirations so that the migration of youth can be stopped.
