Land Acquisition & Forest Clearances for 19 roads/highways projects involving investments of Rs. 10,000 crores in Assam being facilitated: MD NHIDCL
 

National Highways  & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) on Friday announced that 19  roads & highway projects in Assam would be completed by 2020 involving a total investment of Rs.10,000 crores for which the land acquisition and forest clearances are being facilitated by the centre and the state, according to it’s Managing Director Mr. Anand Kumar.
 

Addressing NER Infrastructure Conclave 2015 – Tapping the True Potential of Northeast, organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry here today, Mr. Kumar informed that NHIDCL has already awarded 10 such projects to leading contractors including the local ones which are likely to be completed in next 36 months.
 

“Four roads and highway projects would be awarded by December this year since their awards process is in the final stages and for remaining five, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) would be completed by late next year so the construction work in them begins by March 2017” said Mr. Kumar.
 

According to him the land acquisition and forest clearances for the ten awarded projects would be the responsibility of the NHIDCL which is being facilitated at a faster pace in consultation with functionaries of the state of Assam.
 

The Managing Director admitted saying that the pace for land acquisition and forest clearances in Northeast, which was slower earlier has now picked up the intended pace and hoped that gradually, the thorny issue would be resolved in the interest of all the stake holders including the people of Assam.”
 

Mr. Kumar added that NHIDCL has been trying it’s best to engage the local contractor for roads and highways construction in the entire Northeast so that employment  and business opportunities arise for local population though some leading contractors from outside the region are also being engaged to do the job.
 

Speaking on the occasion Additional Chief Secretary (Power) Government of Assam said that the state has taken the issue of ease of doing business very seriously and with the direct involvement of it’s Chief Secretary with the states entire bureaucracy, the state in next one year improve it’s ease of doing business ranking at number 1 in the region since currently it’s ranking is poorer.
 

In his welcome remarks, Senior Vice President of the PHD Chamber, Dr. Mahesh Gupta welcomed NHIDCL initiative to transform the entire Northeast with world class roads and highways as it this infrastructure that will facilitate and fast pace the investment scenario in the region.
 

Director, PHD Chamber, Dr. Ranjeet Mehta in his vote of thanks announced that NER Infrastructure Conclave would continue in the Northeast under aegis of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in future without any fail.
