PHD Chamber welcomes deceleration in WPI inflation

Continuous deceleration in WPI inflation is welcomed and we expect disinflationary momentum to continue and macro-economic situation is strengthened further in the coming times, said Mr. Alok B. Shriram, President, PHD Chamber in a press statement issued here today.

The WPI inflation has further declined from -2.06% in February 2015 to -2.33% in March 2015 owing to decline in inflation in food articles at 6.31% in the month of March 2015 as compared to 7.74% in February 2015, Pulses at 13.22% in March 2015 as compared to 14.59% in February 2015, Vegetables at 9.68% in March 2015 as compared to 15.54% in February 2015, manufactured products at -0.19% in March 2015 as compared to 0.33% in February 2015.

However, WPI inflation in some of the essential items is still higher such as onions (36.5%), pulses (13.2%), fruits (12.6%) and milk (7.5%).

Since some of the rabi crops can have impact of the unseasonal rains, the supply of these items is needed to be checked to prevent any sudden escalation in the prices, said Mr. Shriram.
